"Quick-drying" by the numbers
There is no common standard for “quick-drying.” That is why we publish the numbers exactly as measured.
There is no fixed definition of quick-drying
UV protection has a rating called UPF. Antibacterial products have the SEK mark. But “quick-drying” has no shared yardstick like these.
Each company writes “quick-drying” based on its own standard, so comparing the words alone will not tell you which is faster.
Water absorption: 2 seconds
These results were measured by the KEKEN Test & Certification Center (Black).
In the JIS L 1907 drop method, a drop of water is placed on the fabric and the time until it is absorbed is measured. CORE SHIELD® fabric took 2 seconds on the reverse side, which touches the skin.
This is about how quickly sweat moves from your skin into the fabric instead of staying on it.
Moisture remaining after 60 minutes: 3.8%
Next is how quickly the absorbed water leaves the fabric. The diffusion residual moisture rate (KAKEN method) measures how much moisture remains 60 minutes after the fabric is wetted.
CORE SHIELD® fabric (Black, reverse side) had a residual moisture rate of 3.8% after 60 minutes. In other words, more than 96% of the absorbed water was gone within an hour.
| Item | Test method | Result (Black, reverse side) |
|---|---|---|
| Water absorption | JIS L 1907 drop method | 2 sec |
| Quick-drying | Diffusion residual moisture rate (KAKEN method), after 60 min | 3.8% |
| Contact cooling | JIS L 1927 | q-max 0.122 W/cm²* |
Sweat chill and drying
After sweating, you may feel chilled when the wind hits you or you step into the shade. This is because body heat is taken away as moisture evaporates from the wet fabric.
The second half of a round, breaks during outdoor work, early mornings and evenings in autumn. The moments after sweating matter more than the sweating itself.
That is why we measure both how fast the fabric absorbs and how fast it dries. 2 seconds to absorb, and 3.8% left after 60 minutes. These are the only numbers, but they should help you decide.
* All values are test results for the fabric alone (KEKEN Test & Certification Center, report 26C06082). They do not indicate effects when worn.
* Contact cooling was also tested for White (reverse side): q-max 0.123 W/cm² (same center, report 26C17557).
* We are currently confirming the water absorption and quick-drying values for White with the material manufacturer.
