In tests by the KEKEN Test & Certification Center, water drops were absorbed into the fabric in 2 seconds, and residual moisture after 60 minutes was 3.8% (Black).
Dimensional change after washing was −0.3% to 0.0%, well under 1% (White).
Discoloration against water droplets was Grade 5 for all 10 colors, and color bleeding was Grade 4-5 to 5. The fabric resists color change and dye bleeding even when wet.

What is CORE SHIELD®?
CORE SHIELD® is a near-infrared protection apparel brand by Phoenix Co., Ltd., using Trubeaute®, a special fiber containing a near-infrared absorbing material derived from rare metals. Focusing on near-infrared (NIR) rays, which make up about 40% of sunlight and cannot be blocked by sunscreen, we embed near-infrared absorbing microparticles into the fibers themselves. Near-infrared shielding is 88.6% for White and 87.6% for Black (fabric-only measured values). With UPF50+ UV protection, a cool-touch feel and moisture-wicking, quick-drying performance, it supports outdoor activities such as golf, on-site work, farming and walking. We currently offer inner shirts and hats, with more to come.

Yes, it is different. Near-infrared rays are a type of light contained in sunlight, accounting for about 42% (wavelengths of 700–1400 nm) of the solar energy that reaches the Earth's surface. Ultraviolet rays account for about 5%. Because their wavelengths are longer than those of ultraviolet rays, they are known to penetrate deep into the skin, reaching beyond the dermis to the subcutaneous tissue and fascia. They are sometimes called "aging rays" because they are involved in skin aging, such as wrinkles and sagging. Since sunscreen and standard UV-protective clothing only provide protection against ultraviolet rays, separate measures are required for near-infrared rays.
Heatstroke occurs when the temperature inside the body (core body temperature) rises and the body can no longer regulate it. Air temperature and humidity are not the only things that raise body temperature. The WBGT heat index, which indicates heatstroke risk, is calculated from air temperature and humidity plus radiant heat from sunlight and other sources.
About half of the solar energy reaching the ground is infrared, most of it (about 42%) near-infrared. Near-infrared rays are said to reach deep into the skin and turn into heat. Under the sun, your body receives more heat than the air temperature suggests.
CORE SHIELD® does not prevent heatstroke itself; it is innerwear whose fabric cuts the near-infrared rays in sunlight (near-infrared shielding: White 88.6% / Black 87.6%, fabric-only measured values). Use it as one way to prepare for heat from the sun, together with regular water and salt intake, rest in the shade and wearing a hat.
The torso has the largest surface area exposed to sunlight. Even with sleeveless styles, covering the torso ensures sufficient protection. If you wish to cover your arms as well, please choose a long-sleeve style.
For those who want to focus on sun protection for their arms, we recommend the long-sleeve version, while those who tend to get hot or are looking for an inner layer to wear under a polo shirt should choose the sleeveless style. We also recommend "owning both" so you can switch between them depending on the climate and occasion.
In third-party tests, CORE SHIELD® fabric showed UV protection of 97.1% for White and 98.7% for Black (UPF50+) (fabric-only test values). Near-infrared shielding is 88.6% for White and 87.6% for Black (average over 780–2600 nm / fabric-only measured values / measured by the material manufacturer).
How it feels varies with temperature, humidity and activity level, but the longer you spend in the sun, the more it matters to cover both near-infrared and UV rays.
Standard sports innerwear mainly focuses on UV protection and moisture-wicking, quick-drying functions. CORE SHIELD® also uses Trubeaute®, a functional fiber that cuts near-infrared rays.
